Growing up I had a love/hate relationship with my body, I wasn't confident in my skin even though I was 110 pounds and 5'7. Fast forward 20 years and now I am very confident however the love/hate relationship has returned especially when I am wearing a bathing suit! If anything made us want to skip past Fall and Winter and go straight into Spring and Summer, it was Margaux Minutolo’s Chasing Sunsets show last night. The founder and creative director of KARMA for a Cure presented her New York Fashion Week show last night at Pier 81, and on a boat no less. Inspired by the sunsets of St. Tropez, St. Barths, Bermuda, Ibiza, and Capri, Minutolo’s designs were nothing short of airy and beautiful. Maintaining a neutral color palette, the looks featured deep cuts and fun add-ons to favorite resort looks, like hoods on rompers and head scarves we can pair with long, flowing kimonos. Twenty minutes after the hour, a packed ballroom of onlookers anxiously awaited Irina Shabayeva’s New York Fashion Week event at the Manhattan NYC, an Affinia hotel. The room’s over-the-top chandeliers glistened as Rihanna and Jay-Z came through the speakers, and the lights slowly dimmed for first looks. Instantly, we were hit with an all black, two-piece look, the designer’s signature style.
Shabayeva’s designs rarely stray from a monochrome template - something the Project Runway Season 6 winner was initially criticized for on the show. Ultimately, Heidi Klum told Shabayeva her line was “sleek, modern and cohesive” and “it told a story,” which Shabayeva was able to convey yet again, nearly 7 years later. Something we love about Shabayeva’s designs is that she’s not afraid of texture. On Thursday, Nicholas K kicked off New York Fashion Week with their Ready to Wear Spring ’17 Collection at Moynihan Station. The desert-themed collection was filled with loose silhouettes, nudes, and luxurious fabrics. Designers of Nicholas K, Nicholas and Christopher, were greatly inspired by the movie “Theeb” which portrays life of the Bedouin Culture in the Wadi Rum. The Tokyo Meets New York F/W Runway Show was part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion week and held at Lincoln Center on February 19, 2015. Seven Japanese labels were featured in this runway show included Aula, Dress Camp, Double Standard Clothing, Fig & Viper, Han Ahn Soon, Mastermind feat. A Girl’s and Riccimie. Each label had a showing for their own unique collections.
Aula presented clean, contemporary looks. Double Standard Clothing presented layered and textured designs. Dresscamp had bold colors and couture inspired clothing. Fig & Viper had neo-grunge looks, Han Anh Soon had very feminine and beautiful designs.; mastermind feat for A-GIRL’S had very bold designs and lastly Riccimie had very whimsical and fun designs. The beautiful show was inspired by a character from the 80's television show “Sapphire and Steel”. The runway show encompassed bold looks that were both chic and edgy. Former winner of Season 5 of Project Runway, Leanne Marshall held her Autumn/Winter Runway show as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion week at Lincoln Center on February 18, 2015. Leanne Marshall’s designs contained light delicate fabrics. Leanne's Ready to Wear collection, in delicate silhouettes seemed to be more of a summer collection. Even though her collection consisted of lots of dark colors, there were pops of lavender, red, white and gold in a number of her designs. Her collection was beautiful, delicate and sexy. Leanne Marshall is a fashion designer in Portland, Oregon. She was the winner of season 5 of Project Runway. The runway show was part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and was held in Lincoln Center on February 15, 2015. The collection for his 25th Anniversary was both glamorous and elegant. The main colors in his collection were red and black with pops of shimmering gold and lots of sequins! Valvo, who has never had plaid in any of his collections did an excellent job of creating bold looks with plaid designs. Carmen Marc Valvo is an American designer who specializes in evening-wear and high-end cocktail dresses. The colors range from blues to peaches and all prints are designed by Olsen herself. The collection includes, pants, purses, shirts, skirts, scarves, dresses and much more. There are numerous pieces in the collection that are perfect to wear to the office and to the yoga studio. Olsen is an avid traveler, her collection is wrinkle-free designed with the traveler in mind.
