Lanyu was nothing short of packed Tuesday night at their SS17 NYFW Runway Show at Moynihan Station. The show even brought together frenemies Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo. When the lights finally dimmed, Lanyu hit us with a beautiful and cohesive collection.
The work, created by designer Lan Yu, has certainly been recognized by its Asian roots. Yu has been awarded several top recognitions, including “China’s Most Influential Designer” award from MSN in 2013. That same year, Yu was recognized by Forbes China as a part of the 30 Under 30: Rising Stars Of Entrepreneurism In China, a list of entrepreneurs to watch for in 2014. Lan Yu's work blends Western designs with Chinese techniques, bringing us beautiful and classic embroidery. The pieces in Tuesday’s show felt simple – the fabrics, including silk, were light and airy looking on the runway; however, the details were incredible, some dresses featuring carefully crafted flowers woven throughout. One of our favorite pieces was a similarly designed and detailed veil, which grazed the floor. The Lanyu collection also reaffirmed that off the shoulder looks are here to stay for SS17, so stock up now! |
