MBFW Spring 2012: Malan Breton

As soon as Andrej Pejic, the model-du-jour walked down the runway in a floor length black and white gown, the crowd was transfixed. Pejic, the androgynous male model who first made a splash modeling Jean Paul Gaultier bridal in early 2011, seemed an appropriate choice to open Malan Breton’s Spring 2012 collection. The show was an almost cinematic experience with atmospheric music featuring women’s and menswear. The dramatic collection used striking hats, fascinators, stark blacks and whites against cool blues and structured lines. The show closed with a surprise appearance by former model and actress Irina Pantaeva walking the final look down the runway.
The last show of the evening brought out an eclectic crowd to the front row including, Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande, Real Housewife of New York, Alex McCord and husband Simon VanKempen, Miss Jay of ANTM and former American Idol, Constantine Maroulis- currently on Broadway’s Rock of Ages.
Malan Breton, a self taught designer and protégé of Arnold Scaasi, debuted his line in 2005 during Fashion Week. Since then, Breton and his collection have been featured on television and print from Bravo TV to WWD. He was nominated for the WGSN Global Fashion Awards, in the category of Outstanding Fashion Collaboration in 2011.
