CHENPENG* stunned and inspired this NYFW with his sixth collection ever, “HIMA LAYA.” Inspired by the snowy mountains, the collection was a series of pieces made for icy temperatures. The brand is the namesake of head designer Peng Chen and is worn by celebrities including Gigi and Bella Hadid, Lady Gaga and Rihanna. Combining multiple polar-inspired colors and textures ranging from wool, TPU, and faux fur, the pieces in this collection invoked the spirit of the region that inspired it.
Specializing in outdoor attire, the designer has dover deeper into the technicalities of producing cold weather clothing, exhibited by the windproof, waterproof, reflective, and seamless materials used to construct this collection. CHENPENG* is a unisex brand, driven by the designer’s original vision of “ONE-SIZE” fashion. Worn by a diverse array of models, the bulk of the collection was an artic traveller’s dream: oversized coats in bright yellows and blues, many of them tied at the bottom with massive multi-sided palms down hand scarves, symbolizing the Hada in Tibetan costumes. A massive pink fur coat, and an unlikely sequin winter down jacket also turned the heads of the appropriately dressed NYC crowd. Models wore athletic leggings and sneakers which were part of a crossover collection with Li Ning inspired by starry elements from Chinese philosophy. Models sported tousled textured hair, and glowing makeup inspired by ancient beauty techniques. UM sat down with both the hair and makeup artists for the show who noted the looks were winter sun-kissed. The collection is framed as a “treasure trove of legendary tales” collected from over 15,000 customers who shop the brand in 70 global countries, marking CHENPENG* a brand that truly designs for its customers. |
