On Tuesday, January 6th, 2015, Target invited Press to a party in the Pool Room of New York's Four Seasons restaurant to announce their launch of the collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer. Event designer, David Stark transformed the iconic restaurant into a poolside paradise, complete with birds and the collaboration's festive floral hammocks, lounge chairs and umbrellas. Models sat poolside clad in the line's colorful beachwear, while guests were served scrumptious appetizers and drinks.
Lilly Pulitzer's new line for Target is bright, colorful and cheery. The line includes clothing for women and girls, as well as accessories, shoes, beach wear, home décor, outdoor entertaining pieces, beauty, travel essentials, and more. The line features 15 exclusive prints that were inspired by the vast Lilly Pulitzer archives and created especially for Target by the brand’s artists. Their Aim was to put a modern spin on the label’s take on resort wear.
The brand was founded in 1959 by Lilly Pulitzer. Initially, the Palm Beach socialite opened a juice stand to sell fresh orange juice made from the citrus groves owned by her husband, Peter Pulitzer. Always wanting to present herself perfectly, she created her now signature shift dresses as a uniform because the bright colors and patterns hid the juice stains. Her dresses quickly began outselling her juice and that’s how her resort line was formed. The namesake label earned her an impressive following which included Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
The new line has mixed reactions on Social Media including fans of the Lilly Pulitzer brand that are excited for the store launch to fans that have stated that the launch will cheapen the brands image. The 250 piece collection, with items priced from $2 to $150, went on sale across the US and Canada in stores and online on April 19th. The collection sold out across the Country within minutes. If you are still looking to buy a piece of the Collection a number of Ebay and Poshmark users have it up for sale!
