Texas, the lonestar state, conjures images of Cowboys, mouthwatering brisket and the greatest hits of Tex Mex. The state capital Austin has all of these in abundance but, we were in the mood for something different. What could be more different than "Everything bigger in Texas" juxtaposed with delicate sushi? Surprisingly, Uchi Austin delivers some of the best sushi and Japanese cuisine in the United States!
The décor and ambiance has an unapologetic Asian vibe to it. The majority of the dining room is dimly lit, while the sushi bar is the opposite, creating a spotlight effect on the chefs preparing the food. Fresh and authentic seafood is flown in daily from Fukuoka and Tsukiji markets in Japan. The quality of these ingredients is evident in the seafood displays at the sushi bar. |
The chef's tasting menu has beautifully presented one-bite delights with impeccable pairings. The shining star is the Hirame Usuzukuri, a flounder sashimi with candied quinoa, lime zest and daikon paired with a smooth Sake. Other highlights include the Machi cure, an upscale and innovative take on ceviche with smoked yellowtail, yucca crisp, marcona almonds, and asian pear AND... Meat lovers will not be disappointed by the wagyu ribeye served on a hot stone and ponzu dipping sauce; a great way to get your cook on at the table! The refreshing lemon gelato with the crunch of salty pistachio's and the acidity of balsamic cleanses the palate.
The service is outstanding. Uchi means "home" in Japanese and the servers ensure diners are treated as guests with their personal hospitality. So if you're looking for something different in Austin, try Uchi. Reservations are highly recommended. For more information visit: http://uchiaustin.com/
