“The Big C” is a hit show on cable dedicated to Cancer, and on June 1, 2011 at the Ogilvy Cares Inaugural Gala, “The Big C” stood for care. This event was full of life, hope, dedication, strength and determination. Nothing speaks strength as hosting this event at the Intrepid Air and Space Museum. This museum is dedicated to heroes who fought for a cause. On this night, the heroes were everyone who is somehow connected to cancer dedicated to raising awareness and providing support.
The event began with a diverse mixer and silent auction of some luxury items of which the proceeds went towards CancerCare, which is a non-profit that provides free professional support services to anyone affected by cancer: people with cancer, caregivers, children, loved ones, and the bereaved. The entertainment was nothing less than spectacular with No Evidence of Disease (N.E.D), a rock group of Gynecological Oncologists as the opening act, comedian Maureen Langan as the emcee for the evening and ending with a special performance by American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. Keynote speakers included Reverend Al Sharpton and John Seifert from Ogilvy, but the real gem of the evening would have to be a young girl, Molly, who was only 10 years old and had a brain tumor. She recanted her story of balancing a fine line between being a kid and an adult. She mentioned chemotherapy in the same breath of playing with her older brother. The event brought together celebrities, doctors, mothers, children, and friends to raise awareness and fund for this wonderful cause. The Ogilvy Cares Gala united guests and renewed everyones strength in their commitment to fight against cancer.
