NYIFF 2015- Another Successful Year
The New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) is considered one of the top destinations for independent South Asian cinema and their recent line-up of feature, documentary, and shorts films has been phenomenal. Six days of screenings, post screening discussions, industry panels, and an exciting award ceremony has proven to live up to the traditions of this 15-year long running prestigious festival. Everything from Bollywood glitz, regional works, to down and dirty low-budget independents, the festival gave its audience a little bit of everything.
Running from May 4-9, the 15th annual event showcased more than 30 films, which captured the audience’s attention and hearts. Some of the highlights of the festival included Shonali Bose’s Margarita with a Straw, Sharat Katariya’s My Big Fat Bride, Aparna Sen’s Saari Raat, and Vibha Bakshi’s Daughter’s of Mother India. Moreover, this year the festival honored filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj by revisiting his Shakespearean Trilogy- Maqbool, Omkara, and Haider. It also revisited the career of veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal with the presentation of the documentary Bengals’s New Tiger.

Best Documentary: Daughters of Mother India
