This year's most awaited Indian Movie extravaganza - International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) came to Madrid for a 4-day festive season from 23rd till 26th of June 2016. With close to 150 Bollywood celebrities attending, an audience of around 15,000 and a business forum at IFEMA to facilitate talks of trade and collaborations did wonders to encouraging touristy attractions to all over Spain for Indians from all over the world and integrated talent from India and Spain to make this celebration a stylish and memorable experience! The four-day 17th edition of this gala in Madrid has aptly celebrated 60 years of the country's diplomatic relations with India. This celebration has traveled to many fantastic cities all over the world spreading the magic of Bollywood and Indian culture – till it got to its fourth European destination after London, Yorkshire and Amsterdam. Previously, this event has been hosted in many other parts of the world including South Africa, Toronto, Singapore, Macau, Tampa and KL. As for the pre-IIFA buzz in Madrid, video clips were circulated on social media when Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Sonakshi Sinha and Timmins were on a visit there in May, showcasing fusion dancing with flamenco dancers, flash mob, with glimpses of Indian stars meeting the Real Madrid footballers Karim Benzema and Luka Modric. This event not only showcased talents from the two countries, but also raised funds to support for the working class people of Indian Cinema and the families of film industry workers, adversely affected during the production of a film. These fund raising events ranged from football matches to cricket matches, fashion shows and musical extravaganza. |

Day 2 of IIFA started off at Global Business Forum, and then the much awaited IIFA Rocks - Green Carpet, where all the Bollywood stars were seen walking on the Green Carpet which was followed by photo shoots and press interviews. IIFA Stomp also kicked off to a great start in collaboration with Mula Fest - a massive event for Madrid's Urban Trends and Culture Festival which encourages creativity and alternative talent and united Spanish and Indian culture with the latest currents in Music, Art, Dance, Cinema and Gastronomy from both countries. IIFA Rocks started a little late, however was phenomenally successful with Fawad Khan (remember the heartthrob from 'Kapoor and Sons'?) as its anchor, and shared stage with Karan Johar. Notable performances on this gala evening were by Pritam, Meet Brothers (Kanika Kapoor with Benny Dayal), Parineeti Chopra, Neeti Mohan, Monali Thakur, Elli Avram, Sooraj Pancholi among many others.
