Imran Khan & Sonam Kapoor
UM Rating: C-
"I Hate Luv Storys" is a very long a predictable Bollywood movie with a plot full of holes. Jay, played by Imran Khan, is the typical guy who does not believe in love stories, whereas Simran (Sonam Kapoor) is the typical Yash Chopra wannabe heroine who believes in everything that happens in the movies. The movie lacks suspense and has very poor execution. In the beginning of the movie the viewer knows that the two leads will end up together, and as the movie progresses, the story is about how they end up together. The love story was very unrealistic and had a huge logical gap due to the fact that the first half of the movie does not explain why the two started liking one another. It also does not explain why the character that Simran’s character is engaged to is always wearing a shirt that matches her dress!
The entire movie is peppered with satires of Yash Chopra films, costumes, sets, and dialogues. The film contained two decent songs named “Sadka Kiya Ishq Ka,” and “Jab Mila Tu”. The rest of the songs were not memorable. The best part of the movie was Jay's overweight office friend, Kunal who shows humorous charts and graphs throughout the movie.
All in all, the acting was not terrible, however the love story was cheaply written, and the direction was lacking. This movie should have just gone straight to DVD as a rental.
