If you are looking for a fine dining experience with an Asian flair, you need to experience Hortus NYC! This gorgeous restaurant boasts an incredible menu of dishes you will not find anywhere else. Inspired by cuisines of many Asian countries such as China, Thailand, and Korea - flavors are combined to create sensational unexpected dishes. This is not your typical Asian restaurant so be prepared for a feast for your eyes and your stomach!
With so many appetizer and entree options choosing what to order makes for a tough decision! Many of the appetizers are very unique like the Kumamoto Oysters which are paired with two sauces; gochujang and plum mignonette or the Royal Platter which includes a chilled lobster tail, tuna tataki, four pieces of chilled shrimp cocktail, with an option to include a dozen oysters. The Grilled Eggplant is prepared with a very interesting twist making it a unique appetizer. It features pickled mushrooms, mozzarella and pine nut breadcrumbs. It is so delicious that you forget you are actually eating a healthy vegetable.
You don't expect to find hummus at an Asian restaurant but the Hortus Hummus fits right in with it's beautiful and colorful presentation. It includes a bright red beet hummus paired with a unique mix of vegetables and naan.
The Coconut Carrot Soup is another must try appetizer, it features a ginger yogurt foam and wild rice. Be prepared as this is a big soup. It is very flavorful and it's gorgeous bright color makes for a great Instagrammable picture!
In addition to a wide variety of appetizers, Hortus NYC has a great selection of seafood and non-seafood entrees. Some of the most popular main courses include Dry-aged Duck Breast glazed in dong pa sauce served with coconut celeriac purée and the Branzino which features a yuzu miso glaze with a cilantro polenta. Even though you can find ribeye at many fine dining restaurants, the ribeye at Hortus will blow you away! It features delicious seasonal vegetables including wild mushrooms and a sensational galbi sauce. This is one ribeye steak you will never forget!
The Truffle Donabe is another incomparable dish - one that we want to keep coming back for again and again! This spectacular dish includes wild mushrooms, cured egg yolk, along with the most delicious black truffles and rice cooked in a traditional Japanese Donabe. It's served piping hot and the scent of black truffle is just divine. This dish has an option of the hanger steak or the sea urchin - whatever you choose, you won't be disappointed!
You may think that with such a wide variety of unique Asian inspired appetizers and main courses, Hortus NYC may not have a good selection of desserts - you would be completely wrong in that assumption. The dessert menu has three incredible desserts including the delicious Thai Tea Pudding with blueberry compote. Our favorite is the Macha Tiramisu served with vanilla ice cream. This tiramisu is a unique take on traditional with a Asian flair. It is absolutely a must order!
With it's beautiful atmosphere, unique Asian inspired dishes and elevated plating, Hortus is a must visit in Manhattan! Located on 271 5th Ave, New York, NY 10016 we highly recommend making reservations at https://www.hortusnyc.com/
