UM Rating: C-/D+
The quality of Bollywood comedies can range anywhere from high quality like Hera Pheri to something seriously circuitous and headachy like De Dana Dan.This movie is more like the latter. It started off funny enough and sort of cute, and then as time went on it got too strange, loud, and irritating.
The story starts off about a businessman (Govinda) who is cheating on his wife Kiran (Sushmita Sen) with an item girl named Dolly (Lara Dutta). Kiran hires a detective (Ranvir Shorey) to get the proof she needs to catch her husband red-handed, and Govinda hires a waiter (Ritesh Desmukh) to pretend he is really dating Dolly so that the detective catches footage of them together. Does it sound like a twisted story? That is because it is, and it brings several useless subplots with it.
If you would believe it, Sushmita Sen actually gained 9 kg to play the role of the wife for this movie, and she does not look like she did nor does she look like a chubby housewife. Lara Dutta looks lovely, still riding off the body makeover she undertook for last year’s flop movie "Blue."There was very minimal satisfaction watching this movie. Every movie has a redeeming quality to it of some sort, and this movie can at least give you two songs to enjoy. The first one is called “Bebo” and the second one is called “Zulfein Khol Khal Ke.” While they are not the kinds of songs you would A-list anywhere, they are easy to listen to in the car or somewhere else as background music.
If you like loud, irritating comedies or you really liked the movie De Dana Dan then this movie is probably right up your alley. Otherwise, my vote for this movie is to watch it as a rental once you’ve really exhausted all the other options out there, and if you really like to watch cheating types of movies, then I think you’d be better off just renting "Biwi No. 1"-it has Sushmita Sen in it, and it is much more enjoyable to watch!
