Celebrating it’s very first anniversary, boutique green beauty retailer “The Detox Market” hosted Odacite's Valerie Grandury, Maya Chia's Susanne Norwitz, and Rahua's Fabian Lliguin in it’s beautiful second floor event space. The panel was moderated by Detox Market founder, Romain Gaillard.
Each of these clean beauty founders brought a unique perspective to the discussion around non-toxic beauty, and why it’s so important for our health.

Odacite
Fifteen years ago, Valerie Grandury of Odacite was diagnosed with breast cancer with only five years to live. Instead of succumbing to western medicine and chemotherapy, she took it upon herself to take all of the toxins out of her life through a raw vegan diet and the removal of all toxic beauty products. The idea for Odacite was born out of her (successful!) healing journey. Today, Odacite is known for its innovation in the field – they have been working on developing an all-natural sunscreen for the past five years!
Maya Chia
Maya Chia founder Susanne Norwitz always had a fascination with skincare, but never pursued it as a career. She also had a passion for the Maya people, as her father – a surgeon – traveled often to Guatemala for pro-bono work. Fast-forward to a happenstance conversation around chia seeds, and Susanne realized the amazing potential that the seed had as a skincare ingredient. Approaching her forties and ready to break out of the corporate world, Susanne married all of her passions through the creation of clean skincare brand, Maya Chia.
Rahua
Renowned hair stylist and colorist Fabian Lliguin became passionate about environmental work upon his move to New York City. While in the Amazon Rainforest working with the indigineous people, he realized he was surrounded by women with hair almost down to their ankles! He came to learn the secret to their long, lustrous hair was rahua oil. He brought the oil back to his salon in New York City, tested it on a client with severely damaged hair, and saw almost instantaneous results. Fabian and his wife Anna Ayers employ the people of the Amazon to deliver what is now Rahua hair and body care.
Valerie posed an amazing analogy around the clean beauty movement. She said, “Toxic products are like McDonald’s, and non-toxic products are like organic foods.” We’ve all realized how bad fast-food is for our bodies, and it’s time we start thinking the same way about toxic skincare products! Happy one year anniversary, The Detox Market!
