On April 1st we were invited to review Manhattan's newly
opened restaurant, Chutney Kitchen. It is located in Hell’s Kitchen at 856 8th
Ave in New York City. The restaurant, which opened its doors eight weeks ago,
serves a fusion of Indian cuisine with Western influences. Silu Sao, originally
in the finance industry, partnered with her friend and Rutgers Professor Pankaj
Amin in this culinary adventure.
The new restaurant features many different menu options for both lunch and dinner, with a focus on light and healthy food. A unique aspect of the fusion restaurant is that you have two options in choosing your meal.
You can "Build it Your Way" by starting with a choice of five options which include: Roti Wrap, Naan Tacos, Salad Greens, Rice Bowl or the Chaat Bowl. Then you pick the filling from a choice of Charbroiled Chicken, Pulled Pork, Shredded Steak, Pan-Seared Potatoes, Farmer's Cheese (Paneer) or Lentils (Dal). Finally you choose a flavoring addition, options include Warm Sauces, Cold Chutneys, and Salad Dressings.
If you are overwhelmed by the options in the “Build it your Way” or simply want to go with something quick, Chutney Kitchen offers "Kitchen Specials", which are ten wonderful selections with very cute US inspired city names like Philadelphia, Viva Las Vegas and more. The specials have a both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
One of our favorites from the menu was the Philadelphia, a naan taco filled with shredded steak, paneer, cucumber, tomatoes, and a chickpea crunch. The Philadelphia is best paired with masala fries and a mango smoothie!
A majority of the menu is made in-house and gluten-free! For more information on Chutney Kitchen visit: http://chutneykitchen.com
