NEW YORK: Inspiring millions to take action for justice and equality, Breakthrough has made a huge impact across the globe and is celebrating it’s ten years as a global human rights organization.
Over the years, this non-profit organization based in New York has started numerous campaigns across multiple platforms such as media, pop culture and community mobilization to spread its human rights messages across. Some of their recent campaigns have included, "Is This Justice", which has drawn attention to women living with HIV/AIDS in India that are forced out of their homes by family members after their husbands deaths; "Restore Fairness", which called on the US government via a documentary to uphold fair immigration and racial justice; and most recently "Bell Bajao" which received attention from President Clinton, it raised awareness to men and boys to take a stand against domestic violence.
To celebrate it’s ten years, Breakthrough held a gala at Cipriani’s in New York City and honored Eve Ensler and many others that have helped in the struggle for human rights. During the gala, Cynthia Nixon and her daughter performed a reading from one of Eve Ensler’s works. A silent charity auction was held that included items such as perfumes, jewelry and art. A live auction was also held which included items such as designer saris, getaways and beautiful artwork.
The event brought into perspective the amount of amazing accomplishments Breakthrough has achieved over the years and will continue to achieve through it’s use of media and other resources to tackle such issues as violence against women, immigrant rights and racial justice.
