Did you know that Summer isn't the only time that you can have fun in the Hamptons? We decided to visit Southampton for a relaxing weekend getaway and explore all that the Hamptons has to offer during Autumn. What we learned is that there is something to do for everyone!
Where to Stay The Hamptons is known for their sprawling estates, beautiful beaches, celebrities and the high life. There are plenty of houses to rent on AirBnb.com and best of all since it's off season you may strike a deal. Our getaway was focused on relaxation, so we didn't want to have to worry about a house having everything we need (we like to be spoiled) so we decided to stay at the newly opened Maison Vivienne (136 Main Street, Southampton, NY). The inn is located in a 17th Century Dutch Colonial building and houses nine rooms with two suites. Our room was very comfy |
and spacious. The theme of the inn is "French Provence meets the Hamptons" and the amazing dining area and cuisine reflect that. Our relaxing stay was not limited to our suite, the small size of the inn made it feel like home and our room was just steps away from the full service bar and stunning dining room. Since Maison Vivienne has a select number of rooms, the staff actually gets to know you and remembers your name and drink preferences (reminded us of "Cheers").
The Maison Vivienne's Executive Chef, Christian Souvenir definitely made us feel at home with his comfort food and delightful personality. We were surprised at the great selection of French inspired cuisine and the fact that most ingredients were locally sourced. We loved the Free Range Chicken Breast that had a mouthwatering sauce, Steak Au Poivre that was charred to perfection and their coconut Blancmange which tasted as delectable as it looked.
We highly recommend a stay at Maison Vivienne not just for their beautifully appointed rooms but for their quality service and exceptionally friendly staff! The inn is centrally located to activities, restaurants and stores!
Things to Do
You must be wondering besides the beach what is there to do in Southampton? Since the weather is unpredictable in the Fall, you cannot depend on warm weather for the beach. We found so many things to do - enough to keep us wanting to extend our stay!
Oenophiles will love the fact that there are plenty of wineries within driving distance. We checked out Duck Walk Vineyard which was 10 minutes from our inn. The vineyard offers beautiful views, live music and plenty of wine. Their wine tasting which includes 4 choices of either red, white and/or dessert is only $10. The vineyard is the perfect place to spend an afternoon.
A short walk from the Duck Walk Vineyard is Hank's Pumpkintown. This family-friendly farm features pumpkin picking, apple picking, corn mazes, games, hayrides and much more. You can easily spend a few hours here visiting each attraction.
For foodies, Southampton offers a range of excellent restaurants including Maison Vivienne, a fine dining restaurant which offers French Mediterranean food, our favorites include the Steak Au Poivre and the Free Range Chicken Breast. Union Cantina is perfect for both Brunch or Dinner and serves up contemporary Mexican dishes. The restaurant is colorful and features an Aztec theme complete with a scavenger hunt! In addition to their fun atmosphere, the restaurant serves up a wide range of delicious Mexican dishes, our favorites were the Guacamole en Molcajate, Queso Dip, Deconstructed Enchilada, Corn Skillet and Beef Taco Americano. Make sure to visit the restaurant hungry as the portions are delicious and very generous! 75 Main offers classic American fare in a lively setting, our favorites were the Burrata and the Italian Onion Soup. Every restaurant above offers a great selection of desserts however for a unique experience visit Sip'n Soda which has been serving homemade ice cream since !958!
A visit to Southampton in the Fall is full of surprises with unexpected festivals, lots of shopping, plenty of restaurant options and fun activities like wine tasting and pumpkin picking. We had a relaxing and memorable stay at Maison Vivienne. See below for our experience in Southampton and be sure to book a relaxing getaway for yourself!
