From January 8-10, 2015 Circus performers from around the world gathered to hold a special contemporary circus in the heart of New York City. This special series of performances that spanned three days was entitled "Circus Now- International Contemporary Circus Exposure" and was held at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Over fifty artists performed for three days of sold out shows, they came from six different countries that included the United States, Sweden, Canada, Finland, United Kingdom and Australia.
Performances were breath taking, innovative and very entertaining. The show was hosted by a talking mime who kept the audience laughing-- performances kept the audiences on the edge of their seats!
This is the first ever Circus Now and based on the audience reaction, this will not be the last. The performances spanned different thoughts and innovations as different countries performed their interpretations on what was daring and entertaining. Some performances included singing, dancing, walking on eggs, walking on wine bottles, standing on wood slabs, and many other daring and boundary-pushing work. This truly was a one-of-a-kind event that we hope to attend again in the future!
